Ex/Changing Families is an interactive installation about adoption, which looks at the role of contradictory societal messages in identity formation. As viewers move through the installation, they trigger sensors, which activate the audio. By entering into the space, visitors alter the site's audio environment, not only for themselves, but also for each other.

Journeys:1900/2000 is an interactive installation, which is intended to be both a journey and about a journey. The viewer is complicit in that the piece will not operate without his/her active participation. Using bend and touch sensors imbedded in a reproduction of a 19th-century travel album, video and audio are triggered as the pages of the album are turned.

memoria/memoir is a project about the elusive nature of memory, creating a metaphor for how we gain, we lose and we share memories through our transitory senses and emotions. Memory is a vast architecture of the mind, a changeable, sometimes reassuring, sometimes fitful archive, that determines our relationship to culture, family, collective history, even ourselves. Like memory, this project exists in a multi-dimensional space, using an interactive installation to connect machines with human intelligence and memory with distinct visual and aural symbols.

2 mothers website is an inquiry into the question of what is inherent and what is learned and whether the two can ever be separated. Tuesday Afternoon, a project about borders and their political and social implications, is an easily accessible screen-based hypermedia project. Landscape is experienced as site of discrimination and even death. Using sound, text and video, the game-like structure of Tuesday Afternoon goes beyond the point-and-click and makes each visitor's navigation of the piece unique. Done in collaboration with Trebor Scholz, the piece has won numerous awards and was included in the 2002 XXV Bienal de Sáo Paolo, Brazil. Website courtesy of Joanna Render Gallery.

The birth of my first grandchild has been the occasion for my most recent DVD installation, Kyle. Along with a video projection of the mostly sleeping and mute newborn, the piece features genetic and non-genetic relatives of the still malleable and unformed infant, each of whom will ultimately contribute significantly and in very different ways to who he is and who he becomes.

Letting Go was commissioned for the exhibition Separation Anxiety, which considers how contemporary artists have explored modern parenthood under the pressures of changing economies and evolving definitions of family hood.
